Code of Conduct

Waaberi Broadcasting Services (Radio Waaberi) has adopted the international declaration of the rights and obligations of Journalists. It provides not only code of ethics to all its reporters but makes sure that they have read it, understood it and are going to uphold the tenets of the declaration. The following are some of the universal guidelines that the staff of Waaberi Broadcasting Services would follow:

Accuracy:

Investigate and double check from two independent sources whenever there is doubt. Fact should be distinguished from opinion and any factual errors should be corrected immediately as they come to light.

Impartiality:

Information would be factual and free from bias. Broadcasters should present background and opposing views in a balanced manner. The staff of Waaberi Broadcasting Services is independent from any political party, interest groups, clan influence and wouldn’t spouse or endorse any political candidate

Analysis, Commentary and Editorials

For the audience to understand the issue at hand any analysis should have a background and should be labeled as analysis but whenever personal view is inserted, it should be labeled as commentary rather than analysis.

Tone of Moderation and respect

The tone of the reporters and the broadcasters should project civility and respect of all persons. Racial, cultural and religious slurs are prohibited. Reporters should avoid inflammatory and incitement both in tone and language.

Avoidance of Advocacy

As the UN Charter states Waaberi Broadcasting Services supports self-determination of all peoples. It also advocates democracy but endorses no particular policy or candidate nor spouses no political party.

Ethical Conduct

Reporters and all the staff of Waaberi Broadcasting Services must avoid conflict of interest even in appearance and should conduct themselves in the highest ethical standard and shouldn’t abuse their position or bring disgrace to the good reputation of Waaberi Broadcasting Services.

These are the core of the universal principles that guide journalism and Waaberi Broadcasting Services is committed to adopt and abide them.
